The building sits on the site once occupied, in part, by St Botolphs House, occupied by the Post Office Engineering Services (latterly called British Telecom) and the home of telecommunications technology/movement in the early 20th century. Opened around 1968 it provided international transmission services throughout its operational life.
St Botolphs Church (Church of England) sits opposite The St Botolph Building with St Botolph Street running between the two buildings. Constructions are on its way for a new public square and the redistribution of local traffic, linking the church and tube station with other surrounding amenities. The public square is an initiative adopted by the City of London Corporation and will be completed in June 2016.
